deadstock 5oz Japanese denim. indigo dyed yarns woven with natural denim to create 3/4" stripes. all top stitching is done using hunter green thread.
the reverse side of the denim is used in the floral motifs, which are hand drawn, cut, and placed offset. all applique is hand stitched using off-white Japanese sashiko thread. my finger tips are blue and screaming at me. a lot of stitches.
sashiko thread has a unique drag and loft that makes the stitches sit proudly on the fabric rather than sinking in. this gives the applique more of a the dimensional appearance although it is flat.
