this jacket is made from deadstock pink alpaca wool and was cut against the nap. (you know how when you brush wool with your hands how it smoothes down? this was cut so when you brush the wool, it does the opposite.)
I found that I liked the texture against the nap.
I modified my classic life jacket pattern to have a 2" drop shoulder and a little more width in the chest without compromising too much of the original.
All pockets resemble a traditional chore jacket--the single interior chest pocket, the 3 exterior patch pockets. But!! the remaining details challenge the traditional. So, I guess wool for starters. Maybe the color. You could say the drop shoulder. The oversized pockets, kinda. Definitely the hand cut and stitched lotus flowers decorating the front.
