Out of Stock

This shirt is made from a 1930’s Madeira of Portugal organdy grand tablecloth. It was a whopping 106” long and 66” wide. It was a family heirloom to the original owners and came with its original dry cleaning receipt from its last dry clean in 1979. Atop of the sheer organdy are linen irises and stems.

Madeira table linens were first discovered in 1850 on the island of Madeira by an Englishwoman who was so impressed by the hand embroidery work of the local women that she took trunks back to England. This particular style of tablecloth is called shadow work. Linen houses came into fruition around the 1930s and many of these linens were highly sought after, often replicated.
